Why a Village Design Statement?
The purpose of a Village Design Statement (VDS) is to manage change, not to prevent it. Ufford is a beautiful village and, as residents, we are the present guardians of our heritage and it is our responsibility to hand on our legacy to future generations.
It is therefore essential that anyone seeking planning permission should first consider the visual impact of their proposed development, ensuring that it fits into its surroundings and harmonises
with what is already there.
Our VDS has been written for:
• planners • developers • builders • architects • designers • engineers • residents • the local planning authority
The VDS was adopted by the local planning authority as Supplementary Planning Guidance to the Peterborough Local Plan on December 5th 2002. This means that City Council officers and councillors will use both the Local Plan and the VDS in making decisions on planning applications. By this means, the village community is given a recognised voice in the planning process and an opportunity for local priorities to be considered.
