Flytipping and Bulky Waste

If you are having building or gardening work done, replacing your kitchen units or getting rid of your old car, sofa, bed, or any bulky household items, it is your responsibility to make sure the waste material is disposed of properly. Remember the cheapest quote is not always the best because:

  1. If your rubbish ends up dumped in a field it is your responsibility; you are as liable as the person who took away your waste is. You must employ a registered waste carrier to take away your rubbish, ask to see their "Waste Carriers Licence" or "Exemption Certificate".
  2. Peterborough City Council working with the Environment Agency frequently examines Flytipped waste. If evidence is found linking the waste to you, action will be taken against YOU, and you could face fines of up to £20,000 (in the magistrates Court) and unlimited fines (in the Crown Court), plus costs.
  3. As a council Taxpayer in Peterborough you are paying to clear up the flytipping that others deposit. Flytipping costs Peterborough City Council on average £59,500 per year.
