With the sun shining today, it could just be that summer is here at
last. Certainly there are some great summer sights all around us in the
natural world at the moment. Red kites are pretty much a fixture in the
skies over Helpston, there are thousands of pyramidal orchids out in the
top field at Swaddywell as well as some of the largest puff-balls you
will ever see. And if you are lucky and out late you can see barn owls
hunting over farmland around Helpston - to both the south and the north
this year.
So why not come along to the Langdyke presentation as part of this
year's John Clare Festival. We will be in Botolph's Barn all day on
Saturday, but the main event will be a presentation on Clare's
landscapes at 1215 on Sunday 15 July - looking at the landscapes and
animals, insects and birds that Clare would have known and comparing
those to what you can find around the area today. This presentation got
rave reviews at its outing to the Oundle Wildlife Group in March, not
least because, due to a projector fault, the sheep were a vivid shade of
shocking pink! We think we have sorted this issue - but come and find
out!
Hope to see you there - Sunday 15 July at 1215 in Botolph's Barn!
