Ufford Neigbourhood Watch Church Lead Theft - Waternewton

Large quantity of lead have been stolen from St Remigius Church at Waternewton - 5 sheets of lead were removed approx 5' x 6' in size.

The theft occurred overnight 14th August and a vehicle would have had to been involved.

Please be aware and keep an eye on your rural churches. Normal criminal behaviour is to remove items and store locally then move them from site. Please don't assume workmen on a church roof are legitimate and always be suspicious. It is worth talking to any residents whose properties overlook the church to encourage them to be observant. Metal, copper and gold prices remain high and whilst this is the case thefts will continue to occur.

On a positive note there have been several arrests for metal theft in Peterborough in recent weeks - but we do need the public to report suspicious activity and any details of vehicles used.
